ISS, a leading workplace experience and facility services company, has secured a two-year extension with Northern Health. The new agreement will run from May 2027 to 2029.
Some 286 ISS Placemakers support patients, staff and visitors at The Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Craigieburn Hospital and Bundoora Extended Care Centre. Our teams provide food services, cleaning, waste and distribution services, and cafe operations, including the preparation and service of around 870,000 meals each year.
Supporting care in a high-demand health service
The Northern Hospital Epping is home to Victoria’s busiest emergency department and operates around the clock. ISS supports this high-demand environment by helping maintain clean, welcoming spaces and efficient patient flow.
ISS teams have reduced average discharge and bed-cleaning turnaround by 38%, helping beds become available sooner. Heat-mapping data identifies quieter periods for additional cleaning in the emergency department, while real-time patient surveys provide further insight into the service experience.
Using insight to improve performance
The renewed agreement strengthens performance reporting and food-service capability. Monthly digital reporting gives both organisations clearer visibility of results and emerging priorities. Streamlined digital processes analytics also support cost and waste reduction. In addition, ISS is investing in the performance management and senior food-service expertise needed to translate operational data into practical future improvements.
A partnership built around people and community
The partnership is grounded in the contribution of the people on site. In 2026, Northern Health and ISS marked a significant partnership milestone and recognised 56 ISS Placemakers for reaching 10 years of service. The account also received the 2026 Pacific Inspire Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award and was a finalist for the Pacific Inspire Reconciliation Award.
Our teams embody the value of diversity, equity and inclusion, with almost 70 per cent of Placemakers having been born outside Australia. The partnership also supports local employment pathways, Northern Health Foundation initiatives, NAIDOC Week activities with Narrun Wilip-giin and an annual Children’s Christmas appeal.
“This extension is an outstanding milestone for our healthcare business and recognises the dedication of our Placemakers across Northern Health. It gives us a strong foundation to deepen our partnership and continue supporting care across Melbourne’s northern communities.” Liz Turner, Director – Healthcare, Australia & New Zealand
“ISS has been an integral partner to Northern Health, helping us deliver high-quality cleaning and food services to our patients. The team works closely with our Support Services department and consistently demonstrates a shared commitment to our values and goals.” Wendy Nicol, Operations Manager, Northern Health
“This extension reflects the progress our teams have made together and the trust that underpins the partnership. We will keep listening, using data more effectively and investing in our people so we can support Northern Health’s priorities and the communities it serves.” Kevin Maczkowiack, Regional General Manager – Central and Northern Health Victoria
