Hear firsthand about Kevin's ISS GMT experience

Kevin holds two Business Bachelors degrees in Banking and Finance, and International Business, in what he describes as a generalist business background. He found the ISS GMT programme key to transferring this knowledge to potential career pathways. The programme provides business and workplace experience across a range of sectors and industries as he explains below.

What inspired you to join the ISS GMT programme?

I found the wide exposure to many sectors and industries offered by ISS very appealing and the opportunity to join an international exchange. Coming from a general business background, I was looking for ways to explore my potential career pathways, and the GMT programme seemed like a perfect fit for me at the time.

How has the programme helped you develop your skills in your chosen field?

From the beginning, I discovered my love for data, finance and strategic work. I expressed this to my managers throughout my programme, and they were incredibly supportive. They provided me with opportunities to develop my skills in these areas, and I was able to work on several individual projects to improve our work processes and gain valuable experience.

How has the experience prepared you for the workforce?

The high level of collaboration across all levels of the organisation has enabled me to learn from others and prepare for future roles.

Did you work overseas as part of the GMT programme?

Yes, I had the chance to participate in an international exchange program. I chose ISS Norway as my destination.

ISS Norway Equinor Team - from GMT graduate Kevin Lam

In Norway, what stood out the most was how I felt completely integrated into the team and community. People there were welcoming and supportive. I have since been offered a management position in finance at ISS Facility Services Norway, and I have decided to relocate from Australia to Norway.

Any particular highlights during this time?

I worked on an important project for one of Norway's largest contracts. The responsibility and self-imposed pressure to deliver the best possible work pushed me to learn new skills and was a catalyst for growth in all aspects.

The experience of collaborating on large-scale projects in a different country and building connections was invaluable.

Any specific mentors you would like to mention?

I am grateful for the support I have received from every Key Account Manager during my time in the programme. Both they, and the leadership team on my international exchange, have been instrumental in my growth and eagerness to learn. They have given me opportunities to showcase my skills and improve the operation. Additionally, I have been allowed to attend key meetings with the client, which has exceeded my initial expectations of the programme.
